"BUILT FOR PLAYERS BY PLAYERS™"

Wrist Shot

This is the first shot players usually learn, as a proper wrist shot is the building block for all other shots. The wrist shot teaches players how to load their stick properly and to roll their wrists to raise the puck instead of scooping the puck. When mastered properly, players should be able to accurately hit their targets without any puck flutter.

Starting Position - Wrist Shot

Starting Position

  • Have your head up looking at the net
  • Point your front foot towards the net
  • The puck is in the pocket or heel part of the blade behind your back foot
  • Your ear in line with front knee and toe
During the Shot - Wrist Shot

During the Shot

  • Weight transfer
  • Bottom wrist needs to be locked down
  • Ear in front of the puck to allow downward force on shaft of stick
  • Ear in front of knee and toe to allow front foot to continue towards target
Follow Through & Release - Wrist Shot

Follow Through & Release

  • Need to start wrist roll at ear before the upswing of your shot
  • Follow through to target with the toe of the blade
  • Hips and shoulders fully rotated towards target
  • Back and back leg in alignment
  • Ear in front of knee and toe to show good weight transfer
  • Able to return to normal skating stride towards the target after the shot

Snap Shot

This is a go to shot for all high level players. A proper snap shot gives players the quickest release on their shot before the goalie is able to adjust. The snap shot allows players to change the angle of their shot on the goalie right before the release.

Starting Position - Snap Shot

Starting Position

  • Have your head up looking at the net
  • Point your front foot towards the net
  • The puck is being pulled into position by the toe of your stick
  • Your ear in line with front knee and toe
During the Shot - Snap Shot

During the Shot

  • Pull the puck to your front foot or have the puck in front of your foot at contact
  • Your bottom wrist needs to be locked down
  • Contact the puck in pocket of the blade
  • Your ear is in front of your knee and toe to allow your front foot to continue towards net
Follow Through & Release - Snap Shot

Follow Through & Release

  • Follow through to the target with the toe of the blade
  • Hips and shoulders should fully rotate towards the net
  • You ear in front of your knee and toe enables good weight transfer
  • Goal is to be able to return to a normal skating stride towards the net after the shot

Slap Shot

This is a go-to shot for D-men and forwards that play on the off-wing of the power play. The slap shot provides the hardest shot, speed wise, when performed with proper technique.

Starting Position - Slap Shot

Starting Position

  • Have your head up looking at the net
  • Point your front foot towards the net
  • Your stick is pulled back in the air with the puck in front of you
  • Your ear in line with front knee and toe
During the Shot - Slap Shot

During the Shot

  • The toe of blade should hit ice first 6-12 inches behind the puck
  • Contact puck in pocket of the blade and in line with front foot
  • Your ear is in front of the puck at contact to allow downward force on the shaft of your stick
  • Your ear is in front of your knee and toe to allow your front foot to continue towards net
Follow Through & Release - Slap Shot

Follow Through & Release

  • Follow through to the target with the toe of the blade
  • Hips and shoulders should fully rotate towards the net
  • You ear in front of your knee and toe enables good weight transfer
  • Goal is to be able to return to a normal skating stride towards the net after the shot

No two players shoot the puck the same way. For this reason, xHockeyProducts™ has dedicated itself to understanding the technical aspect of each shot. Our Pro Analysts will break down the fundamental mechanics of each of your shots and instruct you on the proper technique.
